Ward 6 was also where the run-up to voting day hit a snag. A City mailing error meant 5,000 Voter Information Letters, the notices that tell residents they are on the voters' list and how to cast a ballot, were never delivered to households in the ward.

Because of the error, the City extended online voting. Instead of closing on Friday, Oct. 23, the online ballot stayed open until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, the night before voting day.

As a ward councillor, Bentivegna will vote on city decisions such as the budget, property taxes and zoning, and will be the first call for Ward 6 residents with concerns about local services on their streets.

As Ward 6's City and Regional Councillor, he will also sit on Halton Regional Council, where Burlington's mayor and city councillors all represent the city. The region is the upper-tier government that runs services such as water and wastewater, waste collection and regional roads across Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.
