Mark Carr won the open race for Ward 3 city and regional councillor in Burlington's municipal election on Monday, Oct. 26. He finished 263 votes ahead of Tony Brecknock, according to unofficial results posted by the City of Burlington.
Carr won with less than a third of the vote. The five candidates received a combined 9,456 votes, with Brecknock second, followed by Katy Moore, Lisa Cooper and Kyle Hutton.
| Candidate | Votes | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Mark Carr | 2,851 | 30.15% |
| Tony Brecknock | 2,588 | 27.36% |
| Katy Moore | 1,516 | 16.03% |
| Lisa Cooper | 1,450 | 15.33% |
| Kyle Hutton | 1,051 | 11.11% |
The seat was open because Ward 3's councillor, Rory Nisan, ran for mayor instead of seeking re-election, leaving voters to choose among five candidates with no incumbent on the ballot. Nisan finished third in the mayor's race with 12,650 votes, or 22.39 per cent.
The City says Burlington's mayor and councillors also sit on Halton Regional Council, the upper-tier government that runs region-wide services such as water and waste collection.
The results become official once the City Clerk declares them, which the City says happens as soon as possible after voting day.
