Assumption Catholic Secondary School students went collecting at Halloween for Crusading 4 Cans, the school's annual Halloween food drive, which the school announced in a post dated Monday, Oct. 26. Assumption was the first Catholic secondary school in Halton.
Food drives like it matter to the Burlington Food Bank, which describes itself as a place where anyone from Burlington can get help putting food on their table.
For anyone planning to give, the food bank's list of its top ten needed items is hot and cold cereal, large soup, juice, granola bars, peanut butter, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned meat, pasta sauce and personal hygiene products.
High school students help in other ways too. Canstruction Burlington brings students, local businesses and sponsors together in a fundraiser for the food bank.
Upcoming events the food bank lists include Orchard Park Public School's Holiday Market on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 5151 Dryden Ave., and the Aldershot Tree Lighting on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Sun Country Plaza, 355 Plains Road East.
