More Halton children, including some in Burlington, could get a warm coat this winter. John Domsy, whose foundation has backed Kozy Kids for many years, wants to raise his gift to the program to $15,000. Kozy Kids is the Halton Regional Police Service program that provides winter coats and snowsuits to children in need. Police Chief Stephen J. Tanner has asked the Halton Police Board, the civilian body that oversees the force, to approve the donation.

Police say the bigger gift will help the program reach more young people and expand to other community partners that support youth. Board policy requires approval for any donation worth more than $10,000, and the force describes Domsy and his foundation as a vetted donor.

The program started in Milton in 2021, after reports of children missing school because they didn't have proper winter gear. Outreach through schools quickly found more than 100 students in need, and the force's Youth Engagement Team handed out the coats and snowsuits. Kozy Kids now covers all of Halton Region and has clothed more than 1,500 young people as it heads into its sixth year.

Every dollar raised goes directly to winter clothing for children in Halton, according to police.
