Spoons, the band formed in Burlington in 1980, is scheduled to release its eighth studio album, Nightlife, on Friday, Nov. 6. The band says it is the first Spoons album released independently of a record company, which gave it full creative control.

The record also looks back to where the band started. In the band's words, Nightlife "time travels back to the Nova Heart era, four decades later, now seen with new eyes, and a new perspective." Nova Heart belongs to the band's early days, roughly 40 years ago, when Spoons were a young group out of Burlington.

Across the album, Gord Deppe sings and plays electric guitar, and Sandy Horne sings and plays bass. The first single is Take The World. On it, Deppe sings lead, Horne adds backing vocals, Scott MacDonald and Jeff Carter play keyboards with MacDonald singing backup, and Tony Ferraro and Carter share the drums.

Carter is also the album's producer. He mixed it at Shroud Media Studios in Guelph. On the title track, Matthew Deppe co-wrote the music with Gord Deppe and plays keyboards.

Before Nightlife, the band's discography lists New Day New World, released in March 2019, and two releases from 2021: Repeatable 1980-2020 in May and Spoons Echoes in November.

Fans can find Nightlife, along with the band's earlier releases, on Bandcamp, where a listing posted by Toronto's Sparks Music gives Friday as the release date.
