Burlington dog and cat owners have a new place to get their pets' teeth scraped clean without putting them under. Happy Hounds Teeth, a cosmetic teeth-cleaning business, announced on Instagram that its spa at 5058 Fairview St. is now open.

It is the company's second spa. The first is at 3755 Lakeshore Blvd West in Etobicoke, and the business says it has been scaling dogs' and cats' teeth since 2017. It also offers cleanings at partner locations across the GTA.

A cleaning costs $220 plus tax and takes about 45 minutes. Staff hold the pet in their laps, with no anaesthetic. If a pet gets uncomfortable and the cleaning can't be finished, the owner isn't charged.

The business is upfront that this isn't dentistry. Its website calls the service cosmetic rather than a medical procedure and says its staff are not vets.

The College goes further. Its position is that these cleanings are cosmetic only and provide no health benefit to pets.
