Mike Vencel, who for many years led Bronte's veterans on parade, has died, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 486 announced. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the 1950s and spent many years as a member of the Legion, the national veterans' organization whose Bronte hall sits on Jones Street.

The branch's announcement comes just ahead of Bronte's own Remembrance observance. On Sunday, Nov. 8, members will walk from the Legion hall at 79 Jones Street to the cenotaph, the war memorial in Chris Vokes Memorial Park, setting off at 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony at the cenotaph follows the walk, running from 10:50 a.m. to noon.
