Evergreen Lodge on Lakeshore Road East could become a protected heritage property, along with Fegan House on Cameo Street, Elm Place on Fourth Line and Rockdale Farmhouse on Germorda Drive. Town staff recommend that Oakville issue a notice of intention to designate them under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.

Part IV of the provincial act lets a municipality designate an individual property for its cultural heritage value. Once a property is designated, owners generally need the Town's permission before altering or demolishing the features that give it that value. A notice of intention is the first formal step: it tells owners and the public that council plans to pass a designation bylaw, and gives them a chance to object before it does.
The Heritage Oakville Advisory Committee, which advises council on heritage matters, will consider the recommendation on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The same meeting will hear an update on the Town's Heritage Designation Project 2023-2027 and its Heritage Register, the list of properties Oakville has flagged as having heritage interest.
The proposal continues a busy fall for heritage protection. On Sept. 8, council voted to issue a notice of intention to designate the Wilkinson-Pigott Farm at 3269 Dundas Street West. On Sept. 28, it did the same for Meadowridge Park at 3160 Meadowridge Drive, whose shade structure is built from remnants of the historic Welsman barn.
At that Sept. 28 meeting, council also voted to issue a notice of intention to amend the designation bylaw for the Old Maple Grove School at 288 Maple Grove Drive so it includes the school's 1934 portion.
The Nov. 10 meeting runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Town Hall is open to the public, and the meeting is live-streamed. Residents who want to send written comments or ask to speak to the committee can find instructions on the Town's delegations and presentations page.
