A 91-year-old Burlington man has died of injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car while crossing Mainway near Walkers Line on Thursday, Oct. 22, Halton police said in an update the next day.

Police were notified of the collision at about 7:38 p.m. They say the man was crossing Mainway when a black Hyundai Elantra heading west struck him.

He was taken to Hamilton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police shared the news of his death in an update dated Friday, Oct. 23, saying the man had died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police say. Because of how badly the man was hurt, the force's Collision Reconstruction Unit took over the investigation.

The collision on Mainway came about two weeks after another pedestrian was hit in Burlington. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, at about 11:25 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Fairview Street, just east of Brant Street, police said.

In their latest update on the Mainway crash, police say the collision remains under investigation and are asking anyone who saw it and has not yet spoken with officers to come forward.
