Laurel Boucher, a retired nurse who spent more than 20 years looking after members of the Burlington Teen Tour Band, has died. The band announced her death in an Instagram post, remembering her as a member of its staff and Health Team who played "such an important role in caring for each one of our band members."

Boucher died Friday, Oct. 30, at 64, her obituary says. The band says she was travelling to her cottage when she was in a car accident. Her obituary gives her full name as Laurel Anne Boucher.

The Burlington Teen Tour Band bills itself as Canada's Musical Ambassadors since 1947. Boucher joined its Health Team, the group that looks after the young musicians, after she retired. Over more than two decades with the band, her obituary says, she left her mark on hundreds of members.

Before retiring, she worked as a nurse in critical care, cardiac care and labour and delivery. Born in Vancouver, she grew up in Montreal and Burlington. Outside the band, she volunteered with the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, the charity that trains guide and service dogs.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and the band says it will share details once they are announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Burlington Teen Tour Band Boosters Angel Fund or Wounded Warriors Canada, through links on her obituary at Smith's Funeral Home.
