Halton police have charged a Caledon contractor with sexual assault. They say a teenage girl answered his Kijiji ad for cleaning help and that he took her to a Burlington home under renovation, where they allege the assault happened.

Varinder Chahal, 51, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 26, and charged with one count of sexual assault, police said in a media release. Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims, so they included a photo of Chahal with the release.

The case began in April 2026, when a teenage girl contacted police to report that a man had sexually assaulted her at a home in Burlington.

According to police, officers from the Halton police Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit took over the investigation and learned she had answered a Kijiji ad posted by the accused, looking for someone to help clean up a construction site.

Police say that after she took the job, she met the accused, who took her to a house being renovated. That is where police allege the assault happened.

At the time, police say, Chahal was working as a contractor under the company name Chahal Renovations and had hired her to help with general cleaning at the house.

The allegations have not been proven in court. Chahal was released on an undertaking and has a future court date in Milton.

Police are asking anyone with information about the investigation, or anyone who has been victimized by the accused, to call the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970. There is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault, police note, so it can be reported no matter how long ago it happened.
