The refused licence for a short-term rental at 6183 Guelph Line goes before Burlington's Appeals Committee, a panel that hears challenges to City licensing decisions, on Thursday, Nov. 5.

In a refusal notice dated Aug. 28, the City said the property doesn't comply with the Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act and the rental isn't run within a dwelling unit. The notice, signed by Kerry Davren, director of by-law compliance, cites the bylaw clause allowing refusal when a business may be adverse to the public interest.

Yet the Niagara Escarpment Commission, the agency that oversees development on the escarpment, says no permit from it is needed to run a short-term rental in the escarpment plan area.

The committee can uphold or dismiss the refusal, or attach terms and conditions to a licence. The meeting runs 1 to 5 p.m. in Council Chambers, on the second floor of City Hall.
