Highway 7 through downtown Acton will close for two hours on Saturday, Nov. 7, for the Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch #197's Remembrance Day parade and cenotaph service. It's the first of four temporary road closures the Town of Halton Hills has announced for Remembrance events in Acton and Georgetown on Nov. 7, 8 and 11.

In Acton, Mill Street East, the stretch of Highway 7 that runs through town, closes from Main Street to Bower Street from 10 a.m. to noon. Six side streets that approach Mill Street East are also closed. Anyone driving through Acton on Highway 7 that morning should plan another route.

It's the second time in two weeks that downtown Acton's main street has been shut. The same stretch of Mill Street East, along with six side streets, closed from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, for the Downtown Acton Trick or Treat.

Georgetown's turn comes Sunday, Nov. 8, when the Royal Canadian Legion Georgetown Branch #120 holds its parade and cenotaph service. The closure, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., is a rolling one: roads close as the parade moves along its route rather than all at once for the whole two hours. The route includes Market Street between Mill Street and Church Street, and Main Street between Church Street and James Street.

Both communities have closures again on Remembrance Day itself, Wednesday, Nov. 11. In Acton, the closure for the cenotaph ceremony runs from 10:45 a.m. to noon. Georgetown also has a road closure that day for the Legion branch's ceremony at Remembrance Park.
