Cathy Duddeck, who has spent seven terms on Oakville council and now represents Ward 2, has written her farewell to residents. The Nov/Dec 2026 issue of the Ward 2 newsletter is her last, and it promises she will stay engaged in the community.

Her goodbye isn't the end of the newsletter itself: the issue says it will return on its usual schedule in January/February 2027.

Duddeck served two terms as a town councillor before moving up to regional councillor for the past five terms. Her current job, Ward 2 Town and Regional Councillor, means sitting on both Oakville's council and Halton Regional Council, which runs region-wide services such as water, waste and social services. Before any of that, she spent 13 years as a special assistant to Gary Carr when he was a member of provincial parliament; Carr is now Halton Regional Chair.

She was born and raised in Oakville, and she and her family have lived in the Ward 2 area for more than 65 years. Outside council chambers, she is a past chair of the Oakville Santa Claus Parade and vice-chair of Halton Conservation Authority, the agency that looks after local watersheds and conservation areas.

Stacey Saunders was elected last month to succeed her, winning the Ward 2 Town and Regional race by 800 votes over Sarah Perkin. Ward 2's other councillor stays the same: Ray Chisholm was re-elected Ward 2 Town Councillor with 5,774 votes.
