Shake Shack, the burger chain, has applied for a licence to serve alcohol in Oakville. The request covers an indoor area.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), the provincial body that licenses bars and restaurants, posts a public notice when someone seeks a new licence at a place that hasn't held one in the last six months, adds a patio or other outdoor area, or raises capacity by more than 25 per cent. Residents who want to object or comment must do so in writing by Tuesday, Nov. 3, quoting AGCO file number 3920585.

If an objection arrives on time and the province's Registrar of Alcohol, Gaming and Racing finds it isn't frivolous or vexatious, the AGCO will either hold a public meeting first or issue a Notice of Proposal to Review the Licence Application. That proposal can be appealed to the Licence Appeal Tribunal.
