Three people face multiple charges after a car-financing fraud investigation that began with a luxury SUV bought from an Oakville dealership under someone else's name, Halton Regional Police say. The arrests were made by the service's Financial Crimes Unit, which investigates fraud and other money crimes.

Amin Mohamed, 25, of Milton is one of the accused.

The investigation, named Project Macan, started in May 2026 after a 2018 Porsche Macan was bought from the Oakville dealer using a stolen identity and fraudulent documents. The vehicle was later recovered in Milton.

Police say they found more fraudulent vehicle-financing deals that used stolen identities, fake employment and financial information, forged documents and stolen credit card information. Investigators also worked with York Regional Police on a separate investigation into how a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC was fraudulently financed.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, officers executed five search warrants in Milton and Toronto, seizing items including eight iPhones, fraudulent Ontario driver's licences and luxury designer goods. Police arrested two men and a woman.

All three were released on undertakings, a written promise to follow conditions and attend court, and are due to appear in Milton. None of the allegations has been proven.

The same unit also made an arrest in Oakville in an unrelated case. Kishorbhai Patel, 55, of Etobicoke, was arrested in Oakville on Thursday, Oct. 8, and charged with one count of fraud over $5,000. Police allege he posed as a lawyer to people seeking help with immigration.

Anyone with information about the car-financing investigation is asked to call the Financial Crimes Unit at 905-825-4777.
