A new series of Remembrance Day banners now marks the corner of Plains Road and Waterdown Road. The Aldershot Village BIA, the business improvement area that represents shops and businesses in the neighbourhood, introduced the series in an announcement Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Each one pairs historical imagery with the words Honour, Courage and Sacrifice. The tribute recognizes Canadians who served on land, at sea and in the air, across all branches of the military.
It's the latest piece of the business group's streetscape beautification program, which brought "Welcome to Aldershot" and "Eat • Shop • Play" banners to Plains Road in the summer. Earlier this year the BIA also unveiled Rooted in Aldershot, a public art installation by local artist Sarah Carlson of Living Murals, outside the DOT Patio at 157 Plains Road East.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60 holds its Remembrance Day service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Cenotaph in Veteran Square.
