Eligible Burlington groups that run programs for seniors can apply for up to $25,000 through Ontario's Seniors Community Grant Program, which the province announced on Tuesday, Oct. 27, is open for its next round of applications.

The deadline is Thursday, Dec. 17, and the money is for programs, services and events in 2027-28.

It matters here: the City of Burlington's own analysis shows residents 65 and older are its fastest-growing age group, and a commonly cited estimate puts seniors at roughly one in five Burlington residents.

Local not-for-profit community groups, municipalities, Indigenous governing bodies and organizations running programs for seniors can apply. Among the kinds of projects the province lists are lessons and resources to help seniors avoid fraud and scams and look after their finances, health and mental well-being.

This year's funding also includes an additional $1 million set aside for programs for senior veterans.

Raymond Cho, Ontario's minister for seniors and accessibility, said the program "helps seniors stay active and independent while creating more opportunities for seniors and veterans to connect with their communities."

Groups must apply through Transfer Payment Ontario, and details are at Ontario.ca/getfunding. The ministry is holding English webinars for applicants from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Wednesday, Dec. 2.
