Pets N Groom's fifth annual food drive brought in 376 pounds of food this October for the Compassion Society of Halton, the Burlington charity posted on Instagram. The Levie Initiative also supported the drive.

The society hands out food, clothing and everyday household items and refers people to other local help. It serves Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills, Acton and Georgetown, and says it is facing unprecedented demand as food insecurity surges.

Burlington Food Bank says food bank use in the city is at a record high. It supports 5,660 people at its own location alone, plus hundreds more at partner Mini Markets.

The Compassion Society takes donations at 1881 Fairview St., Units 4 & 5, on Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Clients can pick up food Mondays and Fridays from noon to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.
