Young players on Burlington's U11 Bulldogs Gold raised $1,309.20 for the Gift of Giving Back, a drive that collects food and money for community agencies serving local families.

The team announced the total on Instagram on Monday, Oct. 26, and said the count of the food it collected was still to come.

The Gift of Giving Back began with a single hockey team and has spent 20 years getting young people to step up and give back. The drive says it now supports 10 or more local community organizations, and that communities have raised more than 4.6 million pounds of food since it started, a direct benefit of more than $14 million.
