Students at three schools and actors at a local community theatre gave the Georgetown Bread Basket more than a ton of food in fall food drives, the food bank says. The Bread Basket is a Georgetown food bank.
The biggest haul came from Ethel Gardiner Public School on Danby Road, whose We Scare Hunger campaign brought in 1,276 pounds, twice as much as the next-biggest drive.

At St Francis Elementary, the student parliament, a council of student leaders, hosted a drive that collected 638 pounds.
Silver Creek Public School, a junior kindergarten to Grade 8 school at 170 Eaton St., ran its own We Scare Hunger drive. The food bank said it was grateful for the 400 pounds that came in.
Away from the classroom, actors at the Georgetown Little Theatre in Stewarttown hosted a Halloween food drive that raised 145 pounds.
School drives are a yearly fixture for the Bread Basket, which says it can count on local school support each year. Community events add more: last year's Christmas in Georgetown craft fair collected over 1,700 pounds of food and $1,735.35 for the food bank.
Another chance to give is the Georgetown Lions Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, Nov. 21. The Lions are asking parade-goers to bring food or cash for the Bread Basket.
