More than 80 handmade makers and artisans are coming to Christmas in Georgetown, a craft fair that doubles as a food drive for the Georgetown Bread Basket, the local food bank. Admission is free, and shoppers are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation.

Organizers say last year's fair had 83 vendors and more than 3,500 shoppers, who gave over 1,700 lbs of food and $1,735.35 to the Bread Basket. Vendors are chosen by five jurors, and the first 50 shoppers get swag bags.

Four more holiday events are set for the weeks ahead, from a Saturday morning market and a Santa Claus parade that dates to 1932 in Georgetown to a lights night in Acton and a market of more than 120 booths in Glen Williams.

The Roxy Centre's market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 6 Mill Street East. Vendor tables are $40 each.

That evening, the Georgetown Lions Club's Santa Claus Parade steps off at 5 p.m. sharp. The Lions, a volunteer service club, say the parade began in 1932 and has run every year since. The 3.5 km route forms up on Sinclair Ave., heads west on Guelph Street to Mill St. and through downtown Georgetown, then turns left on Charles St. and breaks up at Georgetown Fairgrounds Park.

Like the craft fair, the parade helps the food bank: the Lions ask parade-goers to donate food or cash to the Bread Basket.

In Acton, Glow Acton Glow's Ignition Night on Saturday, Nov. 28, is a free family evening at Prospect Park with festive lights, hot chocolate, warm cider and cookies.

The Glen Williams Town Hall's Christmas Village Market on Sunday, Dec. 6, brings more than 120 booths of local creators, independent artisans and food vendors to the Glen.

Parking in Glen Williams is limited, so leave the car in Georgetown: a free park-and-ride shuttle runs during market hours from the back lot of the Mold-Masters SportsPlex, 221 Guelph Street.
