Swiss Chalet at 50 Market Drive and St Louis Bar & Grill at 604 Santa Maria Boulevard each had one item out of compliance at routine inspections on Tuesday, Nov. 3: pest control, which Halton Region Public Health's inspection report uses to check whether pest-control practices are properly maintained. Halton Region Public Health is the regional health agency whose inspectors check places that serve or sell food. Each restaurant has a follow-up due by Tuesday, Nov. 10.

At St Louis Bar & Grill, pest control was the only one of seven items found out of compliance. The critical items, covering where food comes from and the temperatures it is kept at, were in compliance. The restaurant's previous listed inspection was a routine one on May 7.

Swiss Chalet's earlier listed inspections were a routine visit on May 19 and a re-inspection a week later, on May 26.

Elsewhere in town, most visits came through cleanly. Of 28 Milton food inspections between Oct. 5 and Nov. 4 in the records Lokul has collected, 25 had every item in compliance. Restaurants made up the biggest share of the visits, followed by casual food producers, supermarkets and child care centres.

The one other finding, at Ethnic Supermarket, 575 Ontario Street South, was fixed on the spot. An equipment and utensil, sanitation and storage item noted at a re-inspection on Friday, Oct. 30, was put right during the visit. It was the store's seventh listed inspection since May, after routine inspections on May 1 and Sept. 3 and re-inspections on July 14, Aug. 17, Sept. 10 and Sept. 21.

The inspections fall under Dinewise, Halton's mandatory food safety program for food premises. Every food business in the region must post its Certificate of Inspection where customers can see it and give its Summary Inspection Report to any customer who asks. Results are posted on Halton's real-time disclosure portal as soon as each inspection is done.
