Shishalicious, the restaurant at 580 Kerr Street, was found out of compliance on temperature and food storage at a routine inspection on Monday, Nov. 2. Inspectors class that as a critical item. Two days later, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, a re-inspection found every item in compliance.

It was the only critical finding in the Oakville records Lokul has collected from Halton Region Public Health, the regional agency that inspects restaurants, stores, child care centres and other places that serve food. Those records show 37 Oakville food premises inspected between Oct. 5 and Nov. 4, and 32 with every item in compliance. Every other problem was non-critical: premises maintenance and sanitation came up three times, and equipment and utensil sanitation and storage twice.

Restaurants were inspected far more than any other kind of place in the collected records.

At Coriander Green, 342 Church Street, inspectors found two items on Nov. 2, equipment and utensil sanitation and storage, and premises maintenance and sanitation, and both were put right during the visit.

Three places have follow-up dates ahead in their records, all for non-critical items. Buca di Bacco Ristorante, 130 Thomas Street, was cited for equipment and utensil sanitation and storage on Nov. 4, with a follow-up due by Friday, Nov. 6. Golden Leaf Chinese, a take-out at 357 Kerr Street, was cited for premises maintenance and sanitation on Nov. 2, with a follow-up due by Monday, Nov. 16. Churchill Place Retirement Home, 345 Church Street, run by Cogir Senior Living, was cited for premises maintenance and sanitation on Nov. 4, with a follow-up due by Jan. 5, 2027.

Return visits show up in several of these places' records earlier this year, though the listings give only dates, not what was found. Shishalicious had a March 30 routine inspection followed by re-inspections on April 8, 15 and 24, then a July 27 routine inspection and a July 30 re-inspection. Churchill Place had a re-inspection on April 2 after a March 30 routine visit, and Golden Leaf had one on May 7 after an April 23 routine visit. Buca di Bacco's only earlier listed inspection was a routine one on June 24; Coriander Green's was on May 7.

Under Halton's Dinewise program, set out in by-law 90-09, every food premises in the region must post a Certificate of Inspection and hand over a Summary Inspection Report when a customer asks. Results appear on Halton's inspection portal as soon as an inspection is finished.
