Burlington Legion Branch 60 will celebrate 100 years of the Royal Canadian Legion on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. with a historical musical tribute to the war years, the branch says. The event is at the branch hall, 828 Legion Road.

Tickets are $40 and are sold by phone: call Gary at 905-632-0205. Food and drink will be available to buy.

The Legion, the national organization that supports veterans and keeps Remembrance going, was founded in 1925 at the Unity Conference. A special Act of Parliament incorporated it on July 17, 1926, the date it now marks as its anniversary.

For the centenary year, Canadians who aren't already members can join the Legion free as Centenary Members. Branch 60, led by president Melanie Pepper, lists [email protected] as its contact email.

The branch's Poppy Campaign runs Oct. 24 to Nov. 10. This year most Remembrance Day wreaths will be laid on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 10, at a ceremony run by Branch 60 and Burlington's army, navy and air force cadet corps.

The Remembrance Day ceremony itself is Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph beside City Hall.
