Six Burlington Public Library branch librarians have each picked one recent favourite for residents' fall reading lists, the library says in its Librarian's Nightstand list.

Kumkum at Aldershot recommends Elizabeth Strout's The Things We Never Say, set against the 2024 U.S. election. Deepti at Alton chose Leah Rowan's Marion, a thriller inspired by Psycho. Sarah at Brant Hills, which reopened Thursday, Oct. 15, after construction at the community centre, picked Kahli Scott's Our Common Thread, a romance set during the filming of a Christmas movie.

Sarah-Ann at Central picked Nick Cutter's horror novel The Troop, warning of truly disturbing moments. Kathleen at New Appleby chose actress Hannah Murray's memoir The Make-Believe, and Astrid at Tansley Woods picked Heather Fawcett's Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter, a magical novel set in 1920s Montreal.

Staff picks help borrowers find good books beyond new titles, the library says. In its 2026 customer survey, the top request, as every year, was more books.
