Burlington's Central Park cricket pitch has been rebuilt with a buffer zone, and the City says construction is complete. Mayor Marianne Meed Ward joined the community Sunday morning for a grand re-opening celebration, and wrote on X that she had the honour of taking the first bat.

The City has been reviewing how Central Park is used, including the cricket area, how permits are handed out and play without a permit, and held a public information centre, a session where residents can see plans and ask questions, on how the park is used. Meed Ward credited City staff with reconfiguring the pitch to make it "safer for everyone."

Meed Ward calls cricket a growing sport in Burlington and says the pitch first opened in 2011. The group Cricket Burlington gave her a jersey, and Ward 2 councillor-elect Sean Campbell also played; the mayor wrote that he "clearly has some hidden cricket talent!"
