Shake Shack, the burger chain that started in New York, plans to open a restaurant at 275 Hays Blvd. at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 18, according to the company's locations page. The chain announced the restaurant in August as part of an expansion within Ontario, with Burlington's at 4511 Dundas St. following Friday, Dec. 4.

Anyone driving to opening day should plan around construction. Oak Walk Drive between Trafalgar Road and Taunton Road is expected to close from Nov. 18 until Wednesday, Dec. 2, for Trafalgar Road improvements between Hays Boulevard and Dundas Street, a road closure notice says. Detours will run along Trafalgar Road and Hays Boulevard, the street the restaurant sits on.

The chain first announced its three new Ontario restaurants on Aug. 17, putting Oakville and Burlington on the calendar for this year and London for 2027.

London's restaurant will be the chain's first in Ontario with a drive-thru. Its existing locations include one at Square One Shopping Centre, 100 City Centre Dr. in Mississauga.

"Oakville, Burlington and London represent exciting milestones in our Canadian growth journey, and we look forward to welcoming new guests and creating memorable Shack experiences in each city," said Billy Richmond, business director of Shake Shack Canada.

That company, formed in 2023, is a partnership between Osmington Inc. and Harlo Entertainment Inc., which it describes as two Canadian-based private investment companies. It plans to open at least 35 locations across the country. The brand itself began in 2004 as a single Shack in New York's Madison Square Park and has grown to more than 705 locations system-wide.

The menu is built around the ShackBurger, which the company says is made with a custom 100% Canadian Angus beef blend.

The chain has also applied to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the provincial agency that licenses places serving alcohol, for a liquor sales licence covering the restaurant's indoor area. The deadline for residents to file objections was Tuesday, Nov. 3.

After opening day, the restaurant is scheduled to be open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The phone number is 289-529-0964.
