A building permit for a new manufacturing facility at 4500 Paletta Crt. in Ward 4, issued Thursday, Oct. 22, carries an estimated construction value of $12.6 million. That makes it the largest permit Burlington issued between Oct. 5 and Nov. 4, according to Lokul's count of city records, and about 69% of the $18,152,483 in construction value across all the permits Lokul collected for that stretch.

Industrial building in Ward 4 led everything else. Only two permits in that period were worth $1 million or more, and both were there: the Paletta Court plant and a warehouse addition on Morris Drive. Two smaller renovations, of a factory and a warehouse, were also in the ward.

A building permit is the city's sign-off that construction plans meet the building code, and its value is the estimated cost of the work, not money already spent or a plant ready to open. The city's open-data permit list also shows the same permit, number 25-003632, under the neighbouring address 4450 Paletta Crt.; it appears to be one project, so Lokul counted it once.

Home permits were far smaller, such as an $800,000 new house at 4048 Melba Lane in Ward 4, issued Oct. 21, and a $700,000 new house at 969 Unsworth Ave. in Ward 1, issued Oct. 20.
